I just had a heartwarming moment that I simply cannot keep to myself. I was enjoying a latte and a good book (Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, if you’re wondering) at my favourite cosy coffee shop when I spotted the most adorable elderly woman you could ever want to meet.
I was immediately drawn to her because of the twinkle in her eye. As a result, I found myself talking with her. She gave me the biggest smile and said “Darling, your outfit is beautiful, it makes me think of my younger days”. (I was wearing a dress with a blazer).
Let me just say that hearing the compliment made my day a little better. We got to talking about her favourite novels, her grandkids, and life in general. She told these incredible stories, and her laugh was contagious.
But when she added, “You know, young people like you give me hope for the world”, that’s when my day was really made. It’s wonderful to observe people’s warmth and friendliness.
…I was so happy it warmed my heart.
My realisation of how great people can be came as I sat in a coffee shop on a Monday evening, talking with this lovely elderly woman. I was immediately filled with a strong sense of connection and appreciation for the grace of human connections. It’s the simple things like these that make me realise how amazing humans can be, and they make me genuinely happy.
Words of affirmation from a stranger can brighten your day, offering unexpected kindness and validation reminds us of the goodness that exists in the world.
Let this be your sign to connect with other humans… it's beautiful.
